Brazil's AES Atimus (formerly AES Telecom) has started tests of FTTH technology, Teletime reports. The goal is to develop the same business model used for broadband powerline, where AES provides the infrastructure on which other companies provide services. According to Emerson Hioki, director of engineering and technology at AES Atimus, the tests showed download speeds of 1 Gbps to each household, but the number of households participating in the project was not disclosed. Currently, 15,000 homes are covered by AES Atimus's fibre network, and the company services 21 cities in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
